About AIDA

AIDA (French:. Association Internationale de Dialectologie Arabe) – International Association of Arabic Dialectology / الرابطة الدولية لدراسة اللهجات العربية – is an association of researchers from all over the world in the field of Arabic dialects. AIDA was founded in Paris in 1993 on the initiative of a group of distinguished Arabists with the aim of encouraging and promoting the study of Arabic dialects. AIDA is currently the leading international association in this field of research and has become the key opportunity for scholars from around the world to meet and share information about any aspect of Arabic dialectology, including, among other topics, hitherto undescribed dialects, dialectal geography, specific aspects of phonology, morphology and syntax, code-switching, Arabic-based koiné languages, pidgins and creoles, the lexicon of Arabic dialects, dialect atlases, comparative and diachronic studies, sociolinguistics, and the teaching of Arabic dialects. AIDA organises conferences every two years, which are hosted by prestigious universities all around the world. The last two AIDA-conferences, AIDA 14 and AIDA 15 took place in Granda, Spain 2022 (https://congresos.ugr.es/aida2022/), and in Malta, Valletta Campus, 2024 (https://www.um.edu.mt/events/aida2024/).
